Bring It Up a Bit

Two new words I learned from a 60’s movie on Netflix.

I absolutely love watching Classic Movies. I think there’s something to be gleaned from having seen a wide range of movies. It’s almost anthropological, if that’s a word. Anyway, the movie was a 60’s surfer counterculture flick about a peeping Tom and the ultimate struggle between surfers and greasers. The two words were:

  • Gremmie: An inexperienced surfer.
  • Hodad: A ’50s-style a car culture person.

If you’re ever interested in watching the movie (it’s not too bad– I really like the Technicolor), it’s called Beach Party. It’s really a mash up of lot a of surfer songs and young white people “swinging”. My apologies to the Caucasians for that being your last big dance craze.

60s Beach Parties were a LOT of white people dancing like this.
